Label TextThis interior door from Iran was painted in the early 1800s is an excellent example of surface decoration using a variety of floral panels in various colors. The most interesting feature of the door is the painting depicting a dancer and musicians. Done in the Qajar style, this was the last development in the long history of Islamic painting. The Qajars were the ruling dynasty in Iran from 1779 - 1924 and gave their name to a school noted for stiff portraiture and court scenes. This drawing is a more lively, almost provincial, example of the genre.
