Label Text
This peaceful scene of a rural area on Long Island was painted by Julian Onderdonk in the first decade of the 20th century. While growing up in San Antonio, Julian became committed to the idea of working outdoors, directly from nature. His training with William Merritt Chase solidified that desire; and before his return to Texas permanently in 1912, he used both rural and urban locations in New York as sources for his art.
