This small figure of a female and others like it represent some of the earliest handmade figurines in Mesoamerica. This figurine lacks clear indications of clothing while others at the time were portrayed with elaborate clothing and hairstyles. Common among most female figurines of this period are accentuated hips and thighs, perhaps emphasizing links between female identities and concepts of fertility (Bernadette Cap, 2022).
