Label Text
Two armadillos, one after the other, encircle the shoulder of this narrow-mouthed jar. Among the Colima, depictions of dogs were most common making this vessel an important example of other animals in the region. The significance of the armadillo within Colima ideologies is unclear, but among other Mesoamerican cultures it is associated with the underworld due in part to their burrowing activities and fertility.
