Ancient Mesoamericans kept dogs as pets, for security, and to eat. They also believed that dogs could guide the soul of the deceased through the complex passages of the afterlife to reach paradise. This unusually large vessel is an excellent example of Colima canine sculpture. (Bernadette Cap, 2020)
