DescriptionAn abstract work. The paper is filled by a large orange field. In the center is a deep blue line which partially bisects the work vertically. Across the orange field are small rectangular shapes of a slightly lighter shade that cluster together near the blue line and fan out towards the work’s edges.Label TextAlthough her compositions are ostensibly abstract, Jane Allensworth describes her work as “non-objective art that is expressive and full of content.” The cool blue rectangle in Summer Drawing #9 perhaps evokes refreshment amid the warm brown trapezoidal form and frenzy of bright pink lines. In the 1960s, Allensworth commuted from Galveston to Houston to study art at the Museum of Fine Arts School with acclaimed artist Dorothy Hood (whose large-scale abstract painting is also on view in this gallery).
