DescriptionView of a mountainous landscape and a meandering river or lake rendered largely in soft blue and green hues.Label TextIn this tranquil landscape, the only sign of human presence is a thin line, representing a road, which rings the mountains in the foreground. The bare topography and muted palette permeate the scene with a Surrealist atmosphere, appearing primordial or dreamlike. Born in Guadalajara, Carlos Orozco Romero spent time in Europe during the early 1920s where he absorbed modernism before settling in Mexico City in 1925. He was known for cartoons and portraits early in his career but turned to Mexico’s landscape during the 1940s. (Lana Meador, 2022)
