DescriptionBrightly colored abstract painting with a highly textured surface. The central image is comprised of hybrid geometric and organic forms in red and pink hues against two tones of blue. The edge of the canvas is lime green.Label TextThis painting evokes the bold colors, geometric forms, and interplay of light and shadow that characterize the San Antonio Central Library building designed by renowned Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta (1931–2011). Biblioteca no. 3 is from a series Carlos Rosales-Silva began in 2017 as an artist-in-residence at Artpace San Antonio. He made direct studies while working on the library’s balcony, which became larger compositions based on memory in his New York studio. Rosales-Silva blends sand and crushed stone into his pigments to achieve a textured surface that recalls stucco buildings he often encountered growing up in El Paso, Texas.
