DescriptionAbstract composition featuring calligraphic black lines and organic shapes; alternating areas of smeared and thickly impastoed pigment; muted palette of mostly whites and greys with passages of blue, pale pink, and purple.Label TextThe New Yorker magazine described Keltie Ferris’ paintings this way: “Picture Monet's garden as a graffiti-tagged plot in Bushwick.” Peachy pink, pastel blue, purple, and white come together in a graffiti-like matrix of calligraphic lines. Ferris created moments of blur by wiping a rag and turpentine over wet paint, creating a ghostly effect in this painting called Ghost Trees. The title may refer to a famous big-wave surfing spot in California, somehow also present in the blue crests, shark fins, aeronautic planes, and undulating lines of this painting.
