DescriptionDrinking cup with two horizontal handles and dark brown decoration on a beige ground. The rim is decorated with a single dark band above a band of dots, with three further horizontal bands below. Each side of the body is divided into three panels by groups of three vertical lines. On each side, heron-like birds stand in the outer panels, and a running spiral motif enclosed in a circle fills the center panel. The lower part of the body is dark brown.Label TextStylized herons and deer inhabit compartments within the geometric patterns that decorate these two vessels. In addition to serving as tableware, cups and jugs like these were sometimes deposited in human burials as grave goods: similar vessels have been found in the Early Iron Age cemeteries of Athens. (J.
