DescriptionA double-handled tripod jar made of unglazed ceramic, with three registers distingusihed by a simple linear design accented with downward-facing triangles. The piece is painted with a simple floral and foliage decoration at the top register, and a series of horsemen wearing wide-brimmed hats decorate the middle register. There are no painted decorations on the bottom register of the vessel.Label TextThe construction and material quality of this jar indicates that it was possibly used to store liquids. The three legs that support the bottom of the jar would help to keep liquid cool by keeping the base off the ground, and the jar’s porous clay would permit liquid to stay cool through surface absorption. The horsemen pictured on the middle register of the jar is unique to the ceramic styles of Tulimán, Guerrero.
