DescriptionSolid figurine with two sets of arm bands, a pinched necklace, earplugs, an elaborate headdress; the loincloth is represented by incised appliques which has long tassels both in the front and the back. Similarities with woven belt tassels of the modern Cora and Huichol have been suggested by Disselhoff (1936: 17). The loincloth flap in rear is a feature which also occurs on small Nayarit figures.Provenancewith Mrs. Jeannette Petter de Werthern (1887-1991), Kettering, OH, by 1967; by donation to the Witte Museum, San Antonio, TX, 1967; by transfer to the San Antonio Museum of Art, 1994Published ReferencesKelker, Nancy L, and San Antonio Museum Association.
