Decorated with dark brown geometric patterns, including clustered horizontal lines on the neck and ladder and lozenge patterns on the body, over a white slip (White Slip II ware).Label TextLabel for 2017.4.1 and 2017.4.2: In the Late Bronze Age, Cypriot potters made vessels like these, decorated with geometric patterns that remained popular for several hundred years. Used on Cyprus as tableware and placed in tombs, this pottery was also widely exported around the Eastern Mediterranean: similar vessels have been found in present-day Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, the Aegean islands, and mainland Greece. These two vessels were part of a vast collection of ancient Cypriot objects assembled from sites on the island by Luigi Palma di Cesnola, the United States consul to Cyprus, between 1868 and 1874.
