DescriptionThis square yellow furnishing panel is formed by two rectangular panels, and supported by a red damask silk lining. The panel is richly decorated with floral scrolls, butterflies, cranes, fruits and Buddhist emblems, all bearing auspicious meanings in Chinese culture. The designs are embroidered in Peking stich—a type of needle work employing small thread loops to form images. Some details are highlighted with gold fold wrapped silk thread. The dragon roundels on the red lining further indicate this panel is made for imperial consumption.ProvenanceNorma Canelas Roth (1944-2022), Orlando; Norma Canelas Roth estate, 2022-2023; sold, iGavel Auctions, New Braufels, March 14 to 30, 2023, lot 6478284, to San Antonio Museum of Art
