DescriptionPainted with famille verte enamels. The main part of the vase is painted with one lady sitting and two lady attendants standing behind her, looking at the three children playing on the side. The painting is out of perspective and the 3 female faces are drawn identically. However, notice the small (tiny) size of the sitting lady's feet. It was the "in" thing to have small feet. As customary then, no lady's feet should measure more than 3 inches in length. The other side of the vase is a tree issuing from the rockwork. The base of the neck is gilt and has 4 flowers in coral and 4 symbols of the "4 accomplishments". The 4 symbols are of Confucian origin: games of skill represented by the chess (checkerboard), art by painting in scrolls, scholarship by books in stacks, and music by the lute. Lakeside landscape on neck. Coral around the rim.ProvenanceMr. and Mrs. Walter F.
