DescriptionA blue and white Yen-yen vase with 8 panels of landscaped mountain scenes set in lotus-shaped medallions. The rest of the vase is covered in lozenge and rosette designs. The 4 scenes depict the 4 seasons, though the paintings are not at their finest. The winter scene is the mountain and river, hardly any trees. Turning clockwise, the next scene shows trees in mid ground with dots on, meaning Spring, the buds and rods are just out. The next one is summer, where trees are much more full in foliage. Then the autumn scene is again more mountainous, and the tree is lighter in blue color, depicting less foliage. The four scenes over the neck area similar in subjects as the 4 scenes on the body of the vase.ProvenanceMr. and Mrs. Walter F. BrownNot on view
