DescriptionPorcelain with underglaze blue and overglaze green enamel decoration. The vase is decorated with two scaly, five-clawed dragons pursuing round flaming peaks around the vase. The outline of the decoration was done in underglaze blue and the piece was fired. Before the application of the green enamel at this point the vase would have been blue and white. The green was applied and the piece was refired. The body is a very fine grained white clay which fires a light, yellow brown where it is exposed next to the glaze. The white glaze has a slightly bluish cast. The theme of dragons and clouds starts in the Ming Dynasty. The dragon is the symbol of China and the badge of the Imperial Family. The mark and the symbols would indicate this vase was made at the facory at Ching-Te Shen.
