DescriptionPorcelaneous stoneware with an incised design under a celadon glaze. The baluster shaped vase with an ovoid shaped body and a trumpet shaped neck is decorated with 4 incised lotus medallions evenly spaced around the body. The body and the neck are decorated with an incised trellis pattern above a band of laurel leaves at the base. The interior of the foot is glazed. The fine grained porcelain stoneware body is thinly potted. It is a red-brown where it is exposed. The glaze is greyish-green. The taste of the Ming period for blue and white reduced the demand and the quality of the celadons from their heyday in the Song period. The Ming celadons were made by Longquan in Zhejiang province in Southern China.
